Summer Staff

Camp Elkanah offers summer camp opportunities where kids can hear the Gospel and grow spiritually.

To help us achieve this goal, we hire both paid and volunteer positions during the summer camping season.

Working at Elkanah during the summer is guaranteed to be fun, exciting, exhausting, challenging and rewarding.

Lead Team

The Lead Team meets regularly with and operates under the direction of the Executive Director and Program Coordinator. While you will gain leadership skills as a member of this team, it is expected that you already have some experience in leading people and camp ministry. These positions call for a high level of spiritual and emotional maturity. Camp experience is helpful but not required.

  • Program Team Lead - The voice of camp, emcee for chapel and camp activities. Leads the members of the program team. Works closely with and assists the Program Coordinator in the overall operation of camp.

  • Counseling Team Leads – Two people (one male and one female) work closely together to support and lead the counseling team.

  • Dream Team Leads – The dream team leaders (one male and one female) facilitate spiritual and personal growth for the dream team members while providing direction and supervision in daily tasks. This position acts as a counselor and coordinator of the dream team.

Preferred requirements:

  • Age 21 by June 15th

  • Out of high school for at least 3 years

  • Able to direct, manage and spiritually disciple your team

  • Three years of summer camp or other youth programs experience

Program Team

All members of the programming team work together to use their talents and skills to contribute to the overall camp program. Program team members will be expected to show resilience, responsibility and leadership in all aspects of their position. Creativity and ingenuity are required! The program team consists of individuals who oversee and manage all of the skits, games, worship, crafts, chapel, and other camp activities. Works under the direction of the Program Team Lead.

Preferred requirements:

  • Age 18 by June 15th

  • Skills in photography, video production, team building, recreation, large and small group games, music, arts and crafts.

  • Two years of summer camp or other youth programming experience

Counseling Team

Counselors and assistant counselors are the hands and feet of camp ministry. They eat, sleep, play, learn, and hang out with the campers in their cabin showing the love of Christ in tangible ways. Counselors are blessed with the opportunity to have meaningful conversations with campers – speaking into their lives. Counselors have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with campers often leading to a life-changing experience for both the camper and the counselor. Works under the direction of the Counseling Team Leads

Preferred requirements:

  • Age 18 by June 15th

  • Out of high school for 2 years

  • Experience in child and/or teen discipleship, mentoring and behavior management

Dream Team

Dream Team members do much of the behind the scenes labor at camp including: working in the kitchen, washing dishes, cleaning, camp projects, and more. You will also help out with programming including free time activities, the camp store, programmed events (i.e. night games, skits, etc.) and many other jobs to help camp run smoothly. This position is designed to grow your personal walk with Christ, leadership abilities, and your ability to serve others well – all while having a great time at camp. Dream Team members showing exceptional leadership may get the opportunity to serve with a counselor, as a counselor in training. Works under the direction of the Dream Team Leads.

Minimum requirements:

  • Age 15 by June 1th (age 14 may be considered with formal recommendation from a Blue Mountain church pastor)

  • Completed at least 1 year of high school

  • Strong work ethic

Time Commitment:

We ask that our full season summer staff commit to serving from June 18-July 17, 2023. Time frames for lead staff and other positions are longer. PLEASE NOTE: There will be a all staff workday followed by a Wallowa Lake retreat for those who have worked the entire camp season after campers leave on July 15-17th.

Compensation:

Food and housing are provided for all summer staff positions.

Lead Team, Counseling Team and Program Team receive a stipend at the end of the season.

The Dream Team relies on volunteers serving from a mission focused heart.
